Holocaust Survivors in Crisis: Providing Critical Support in Israel

For the Holocaust survivors of Israel, the warning sirens, the explosions of rockets, and the news filled with war bring back horrible memories.

These precious people should be enjoying their final years in peace and safety. But many of them are living with fear and even hunger. Most Holocaust survivors have no living family members to help care for them. Many are too afraid to leave their tiny apartments, so we have to take the help they need to their door. And we are doing that every single day.

I’m Dr. Mike Evans, the founder and CEO of the Friends of Zion Center in Jerusalem. Our mission is clear: to stand with Israel and support the Jewish people. Every day, we are on the front lines providing desperately needed urgent care to those who are hurting.  We provide daily meals to thousands of elderly Jewish people, many of whom are Holocaust survivors.  We also bring aid to the victims of terror attacks and touch the lives of those who have endured and lost so much.

We help when Israel is in crisis, but we help every other day of the year as well. Everything we are doing to bless and help these precious people is made possible by the generous financial support of friends like you who love God’s Chosen People and want to reach out to them in Christian love while there is still time.

Israel has the highest poverty rate in the developed world, the shocking statistics reveal that one in five Holocaust survivors is living without enough money for food, medicine, rent, and utilities. The tiny stipend they receive from the government doesn’t even cover their cost of living. Many suffer the physical and emotional effects of what they endured as young people. I’m asking you today to join hands with us in reaching out and meeting their needs.

It’s not enough for us to be outraged by the attacks on Israel or shake our heads in disbelief at the persistence of hatred of Jewish people. We can’t wait for someone else to step up; it’s up to you and me. The ancient command of God, as spoken through the prophet Isaiah, resounds in our hearts: “Comfort ye, comfort ye My people” (Isaiah 40:1).

We need your help. The work we do to protect and support God’s Chosen People and care for poor Holocaust survivors would not be possible without generous friends like you.
